Frequently asked questions
We know the journey to the skies begins with many questions. We’re here to answer all of them before you take your first flight.
Most pilot training programs do not require a university degree or a specific area of studies. But it’s required to have a solid secondary-school education that will provide the basis for generic knowledge in Mathematics, Physics and English.
These are tested during the admission test and are eliminatory.
Don’t worry, requiring correction to your vision is not automatically disbarring from a career as an airline pilot. The requirements are that distant visual acuity, with or without correction, shall be 6/9 or better in each eye separately and binocular visual acuity shall be 6/6 or better. For an initial examination the refractive error shall not exceed +6 diopters. For more information we recommend that you contact an EASA approved Aeromedical Centre (AEMC).
Having some form of color blindness does not necessarily prevent you from having a career as an airline pilot, providing you can pass acceptable color perception tests (predominately Red/Green perception). For more information we recommend that you contact an EASA approved Aeromedical Centre (AEMC).
There are no height limits that will affect you qualifying for a civil professional license. But if you are particularly short or tall, less than 5’2″ (157 cm) or over 6’6″ (200 cm), it’s recommended that you try the schools’ aircraft to see if you would fit into and be able to reach all the controls comfortably. This would also identify whether your height would limit your career prospects in the future.

First check to see if you meet our entry criteria listed in our entry requirements. Before you can enroll at FlyBy Aviation Academy, you will attend a process, designed to assess an applicant’s overall suitability for the pilot career and follow the best practices in the industry, replicating as much as possible the requirements of the airlines. It typically comprises different aptitude tests and the results of this assessment will give you the best indication regarding your suitability for a career as a pilot.
Not at all: everyone that meets the minimum entry criteria may apply. FlyBy Aviation Academy maintains equal opportunity standards that prohibit discrimination based on gender, race, religion, age or national origin. With regard to non-EU cadets, being accepted in our course means you will be able to apply for a student visa. So far, our success record is 100% in obtaining visas for our students!
FlyBy Aviation Academy is registered as an ICAO English examination center, accredited thanks to our partnership with The English Center in Mallorca. Our ICAO English exam follows ICAO and EASA regulations and has been issued by the Hungarian Civil Aviation Authority. As per our experience and highly professional team we can provide, if the requirements are met, up to ELP6.

FlyBy Aviation Academy is the commercial trademark of FLYBAI, S.L, an Approved Training Organisation (ATO) certified under the approval number E‑166 by AESA, the Spanish Civil Aviation Authority, to provide professional pilot training that meets EASA’s safety and quality standards.
FlyBy Aviation Academy operates from Burgos and Logroño-Agoncillo airports, both with low traffic density, stable year-round operations, and infrastructure perfectly suited for general aviation, allowing students to fly more hours with fewer delays. Their manageable size, accessibility, and operational efficiency create a safe and reliable environment where training can progress smoothly and consistently.
- Be at least 17 years of age to apply.
- Be able to obtain an EASA Class 1 medical certificate without restrictions.
- Pass FlyBy Aviation Academy internal admission tests, which include Personality, English, Mathematics and Physics.
- It is mandatory to have completed secondary / high school education.
- Meet ICAO English Level 4 standards as a minimum.
No, there is no set upper age limit for starting pilot training. What truly matters is meeting the medical standards and being fully committed to the training process. It is true that airlines look for younger pilots but a professional pilot can do many other activities such as medevac flights, skydiving, banner towing, scenic tours, crop spraying, flight instruction or business aviation. Age is not a limitation for these.
No experience? No problem! Our programs are built to take students from the very beginning —regardless of their background—and guide them step by step through both the theoretical and practical stages of pilot education.

The EASA Integrated ATPL program is a full-time intensive program that requires complete dedication and cannot be done part-time. Although there is an option to take the EASA Modular ATPL Program which allows more flexibility but with longer duration, this is not available at FlyBy Aviation Academy at the moment.
The program delivers six months of intensive ATPL theory followed by progressive flight training — from first solo to cross-country, IFR, and multiengine operations — culminating in all 14 exams and final skill tests.
No, the ATPL course is a professional training pathway that leads to an Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL). This is an internationally recognized aviation qualification rather than an academic degree. However, for students who want to combine flight training with a higher education offer, FlyBy Aviation Academy in collaboration with Burgos University offers a Degree in Commercial Pilot for Passenger and Cargo transport.
Graduate pilots from the EASA Integrated ATPL course obtain a Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) with a Multi-Engine Instrument Rating (ME-IR) and a “frozen” ATPL, along with UPRT and Multi-Crew Cooperation (MCC) training.
This licence allows them to apply to airlines in the 31 EASA member states and in many other countries through a licence conversion process. After being hired, pilots must complete a Type Rating for the specific aircraft used by the airline.
New First Officers usually start flying short-haul routes to gain experience in critical flight phases such as departures and approaches. Once they reach 1,500 total flight hours, including 500 hours in multi-crew operations, their ATPL becomes “unfrozen”, making them eligible for promotion to Captain
FlyBy Aviation Academy offers a modern fleet of more than 40 aircraft, most of them with less than 5 years of age and offering EFIS avionics (Glass Cockpit).
There are Cessna and Piper aircraft, but the bulk of the fleet is made of Italian-made Tecnam Aircraft.
FlyBy Aviation Academy currently operates four modern simulators.
Two simulators are approved as FNPT II devices based on the Tecnam P2006 multiengine aircraft. The other two simulators are FNPT II MCC approved and offer a full‑size airline‑type device based on the Airbus A320 and on the Boeing B737, used to train cadets and offers MCC and APS MCC programs.
